Where to Find Your Seaside Centennial Keepsakes

June 23, 2021 | by Jen Anderson

While you’re walking around in Seaside looking to beat the heat, you might start with a super-tall, non-alcoholic frozen refreshment at Seaside Slushies & Dogs on Broadway. For $15, you can get 24 ounces of cool bliss — plus the souvenir Centennial cup to hang on to for refills and future trips.

It’s just one of many Prom Centennial keepsakes Seaside’s shops, restaurants and attractions are offering to visitors — an excellent way to support local businesses and enjoy a scavenger hunt at the same time. Starting at the Seaside Visitors Bureau, you can find a Prom Centennial booklet, holographic stickers, fridge magnets and maybe even a limited-run Prom Centennial T-shirt (while supplies last).

Cross U.S. 101 to pick up an adorable shark stuffy wearing a tiny commemorative centennial T-shirt at Rascals candy shop in the Carousel Mall, a favorite spot for saltwater taffy, plushies and tshirts. Next door at Caffe Latte, grab your java to go in a commemorative mug with historic Seaside photos.

Around the corner on Broadway, find a custom Rubik’s cube at Pig ‘N Pancake. Stop by Dundee’s Bar for a special adult refreshment — a 32-ounce plastic pail of a fruity concoction, designed to be shared by two or more people. Next door at Just Add Sun, find a fun Prom Centennial keychain that changes color in the sun. Two doors down, pick up a cool commemorative foam-mesh trucker-style hat at one of oldest bars in Seaside, the Bridge Tender

From the north end of Quatat Park, head another four blocks north to pick up your commemorative lapel pin at the Seaside Historical Society Museum or at a select number of local shops including Beach Books, Fairweather House & Gallery, The Asprin Shop, Sun Rose Gallery and Tis the Season. Head back to Second Avenue, where you can pick up a luggage tag for your Oregon Coast journeys at Hillcrest Inn. Another block west toward the ocean, find your commemorative patch, magnet and sticker at the Seaside Aquarium

Besides a great way to support local businesses, Dawn Fujiwara-Pavlik, owner of Seaside Slushie & Dogs, says the commemorative items are a way to appreciate the sentimental value of the big 100-year milestone.

“When you come to Seaside, the beauty of it is where it’s stuck in time, in my opinion,” says Fujiwara-Pavlik, who moved to town with her husband in 2017 after visiting and falling in love with the relaxed and friendly coastal community. “It’s not as techy as other places; it’s mostly mom-and-pop shops. The centennial is such a milestone — it’s going to happen one time, and I feel like we should all embrace the history and take advantage of being able to celebrate it.”

Don’t Miss These Special Prom Treats:

Cool off from the beach with a treat at Sea Star Gelato — try their Centennial Sundae, which comes in a cup that changes color when the cold ice cream hits it. When it’s time for a proper meal, there’s no lack of family-friendly dinner choices with ample outdoor seating in the summer. At Seaside Brewery (housed in the town’s old jail), pair a house-smoked pulled-pork or brisket sandwich with their limited-release Prom Centennial Pale Ale.

and so much more!

Golfing at the Beach

I adore golfing! I love walking along the greens, the feel of a driver in my hand, and I love watching the ball fly through the air. Unfortunately for me, I’m not very good at golf. I can hit the ball straight but not far, and my putting is atrocious! Regardless of my lack of skills I still love it, and thankfully my boyfriend is also incredibly patient while I putt away. As a treat for his patience I’m planning to take him golfing in Seaside. Golfing on a green course with the Pacific Ocean nearby is an incredible experience. There is one golf course in Seaside, and a few close by in Gearhart (just two miles from downtown Seaside).
