Savor Oregon Wines at Seaside’s Tasting Rooms

August 23, 2023 | by Kerry Newberry

In autumn, when the coastal air turns brisk and blustery, you can uncork and unwind in downtown Seaside with other wine lovers for the annual Fall Seaside Downtown Wine Walk. Join the conviviality each November (this year on Saturday, November 11, 2023) as Seaside’s bottle shops and tasting rooms bring the best of Oregon wine country right to you on your beach vacation. For one leisurely evening, you can savor tastings from up to 14 different Oregon wineries and discover the best of Seaside’s downtown businesses as they provide complimentary appetizers throughout the event.

If you can’t make the event, you’re still in luck. While Seaside doesn’t have actual wineries in town, many of the bottle shops and tasting rooms are led by wine specialists and certified sommeliers who love to share their stories and expertise about the world of wine. Here are a few of the places where you can pick up your favorite bottles, sample new varietals, and learn more about the wonders of Oregon food and wine.

Evoke Winery

At Evoke Winery’s tasting room, the mantra is “feel-good wines for whatever the times.” Since 2005 this winery has partnered with vineyards throughout the Pacific Northwest. Expect playful names for over 30 wine blends — think Better Together malbec, Simple Pleasures cabernet franc and Here to Stay chardonnay. The winery also has tasting rooms in Hood River, Bend and Vancouver, but this is their only location on the Oregon Coast.

At The Whet Spot, you’ll find not only a respectable selection of wine, but also hundreds of choices of beer, cider and seltzer selections, too. Located right on the promenade with a pet-friendly patio, this taproom and bottle shop also offers a menu packed with snacky plates like bacon-wrapped dates, roasted brussels sprouts and nachos, along with hearty sliders that arrive stuffed with pulled pork or ham and cheese.

Brimming with over 1,000 wine selections along with a rotating stock of craft beer, Hop & Vine is a popular hub for locals. Near the wall of windows, you’ll find a stretch of bar seats along with bistro tables set for conviviality. Stylish chandeliers add flair to the space where you can settle in for glass pours paired with snacks and charcuterie along with select local cheese. In the holiday season, look out for gift boxes of limited-edition wines from top Oregon producers.

CHēZ

Head to CHēZ, Seaside’s newest culinary hot spot that’s a cheese shop and deli by day, then a hopping wine bar by night. Just two short blocks north of Upper Broadway, CHēZ is led by Destiny Dudley Deras, a certified cheesemonger and sommelier. You’ll find a thoughtful selection of small-batch cheese and charcuterie cut to order along with freshly prepared snacks to accompany any glass pour or takeaway bottle.

For fans of fruit port-style wines and robust reds that you toast around a cozy fire, Buddha Kat Winery delivers. In addition to a rich framboise-chocolate port-style wine that you can sip or drizzle on desserts, you’ll find classics like cocoa-tinged merlot and the unexpected — try a lush fruit wine made completely from Oregon blackberries.

No matter which experience you choose, be sure to buy an extra bottle — or case — to take home and share with your favorite people. Pro tip: On Alaska Airlines, you can even bring back a case of Oregon wine for free.

and so much more!

Wave Energy

Wave energy refers to energy generated from the power of waves near their surface. There are different types of devices designed to convert wave energy, but the ones that seems to be most in use at the moment as researchers continue to investigate this source of renewable energy are buoys.
