Where to Shop for Souvenirs in Seaside

October 31, 2017 | by Shellie Bailey-Shah

Beach Books is an independent book store in Seaside, Oregon.

Hunting for bargains? Searching for Seaside souvenirs? Seeking one-of-a-kind gifts? You’ve come to the right place. To your delight, you’ll find a shopping scene that’s dominated by family-owned businesses and increasingly focused on local artisans. Here’s where to find something special for anyone on your list — yourself included.

Shop by the Beach

As you walk away from the beach, pop into Seaside Candyman (21 N. Columbia St.), where you can choose from 180 different kinds of saltwater taffy. Snag an Oregon-only flavor like marionberry (think raspberry plus blackberry) to gift friends back home. Next, explore the indoor Seaside Carousel Mall (300 Broadway St.), the go-to spot for Seaside souvenirs. The kids will love the crazy collection of costume hats at Seaside Mostly Hats; try on the crab for an Instagram-worthy photo. If you forgot to pack beach toys, Under The Big Top Toys has you covered. Or if the weather is a bit more blustery that you expected, you’ll find kids’ books, games and puzzles here for indoor family fun. If you have a bit more time to linger, stop at Oregon Coastal Portraits, where artist David Poole can create pencil or chalk pastel sketches of the family right before your eyes. (Pro tip: These portraits make great gifts for the grandparents.) And after you’re done shopping, take a spin on the old-fashioned carousel.

Boutiques and Books

A short walk across the Broadway Street Bridge brings you to Seaside’s historic Gilbert District. The area is anchored by Fairweather House & Gallery (612 Broadway St.), with a small cluster of locally owned business in the surrounding blocks. Stylish, chic and unexpected, you’re sure to find Pacific Northwest-inspired art and home furnishings to remind you of your Seaside visit. Next browse at the bright and inviting Beach Books (616 Broadway St.). You might encounter book readings, author signings or the resident cat, Oz. A door in the bookstore connects to the adjoining Dough Dough Bakery, where you can pause for fresh pastries and other delectable baked goods.

Big Bargains on Oregon Brands

Bargain hunters will want to make the quick drive to the Seaside Factory Outlet Center (1111 N. Roosevelt Dr.), home to 20-plus stores offering deals on iconic local brands. Look for discounts on athletic wear from Oregon-born Nike at the factory store. Also based in Oregon, Pendleton offers high-quality clothing and wool blankets with Native American-inspired designs. While you’re here, don’t miss Wine & Beer Haus, featuring more than 300 beers and wines from Oregon and around the world. Oh yeah, did we mention that Oregon has no sales tax? Hope you brought an extra suitcase.

and so much more!
