The Spirits of Seaside Inside

Seaside has a lot of spirits, but not the kind that rattle chains and go bump in the night. We mean the kind of spirits that quench your thirst. There are a variety of choices for adult beverages and some unique ways to enjoy them. In this, our last installment of, “Inside Seaside,” we want to show yet another way to enjoy the indoor activities in Seaside. This blog series was our answer to the question we get when the weather is not so predictable, “What is there to do indoors?” If you didn’t see the first two posts, be sure to check out, “Inside Seaside for Kids,” and, “Seaside Inside: Historical Edition.”

Wine lovers will be happy to hear that, although there are no vineyards in the Seaside area, there is no shortage of opportunities to enjoy Northwest regional wines when visiting. At the Wine and Beer Haus, located in the Seaside Factory Outlet Center, they offer over 800 choices of wine. They also host periodic events, celebrating a particular winery, which visitors are encouraged to enjoy. Another choice for wine is the Buddha Kat Winery Tasting Room. The vineyard and winery are in Sandy, Oregon, but they have a tasting room right next to the Carousel Mall in downtown Seaside, open seven days a week. One Thursday per month, they host Buddha Kat Paint Nite. Learn from the in-house paint instructor and create your own masterpiece while sampling excellent wine. To enjoy this event, register in advance at their events page.

If Beer is more to your liking, Seaside Brewing Company on Broadway is happy to offer a paddle of in-house craft brews. Enjoy your beer inside the historic town jail, complete with working jail cell. For some fresh air, take your paddle outside to the covered patio and keep warm next to the roaring fire. The outdoor space is very dog friendly, in case you want to bring your “best friend.” Another beer choice is again at the Wine and Beer Haus. They have something called the Hall of Foam that tracks all the beer tasted by advantageous beer lovers. One enthusiast is up to almost 1,000 beers tasted. And on the first Sunday of the month at 5 p.m., they host a regular tasting event highlighting a different brewery or variety of beer each time.

Perhaps your preference is for liquor? Seaside is lucky to have a tasting room for Astoria-based distillers Pilot House Distilling. They offer a variety of crafted liquors such as infused vodkas, gins, and even sipping vinegar. Stop by the tasting room at Broadway and Holladay to taste a flight. If you buy a bottle while you’re there, your flight is free.

Seaside is always ready to host your next tasting experience. And, in the, “spirit,” of our blog series, “Seaside Inside,” we hope you will enjoy some of these suggestions for fun indoors. They will warm you up after a trip to the beach during the fair weather breaks that are common in Seaside.
