Have You Done the Seaside Treasure Quest IV (2014) Yet?
TqivcollageFor the past three years, we've tested your sleuthing skills and your creativity and you have risen to the challenge. Now we're doing it again. The arrival of our latest Seaside Visitor Guide 2014, marks the official start of the Seaside Treasure Quest IV. Our Treasure Quest clues help visitors navigate Seaside from unique perspectives. Questers have shared with us how much fun they had discovering parts of Seaside they might not have found otherwise. In 2013, our Treasure Quest III received the highest number of creative entries ever, and boy did we enjoy going through all of them! This year, we've got even more great prizes. Three winners will receive a 2-night stay in Seaside plus a collection of other great prizes. And, of course we are bringing back our favorite category: most creative entry. Our creative entries have come in all shapes, sizes and colors. We've received photo collages, creatively drawn maps, albums with photo captions, and slide show presentations. Last year's winning entry was a video about a magical quest through Seaside where the Questers were shrunken and turned into clay figures. Their only way back to normal was to solve the Treasure Quest clues. (Here's a blog post with links to 2013 winners.) While you certainly don't need to be a filmmaker in order to win, creativity is king here! Make us laugh, make us cry, make us applaud and gasp out loud!  (just keep it safe and legal, please!)  We look forward to spending 2014 enjoying all the entries from you!

EstuarytillamookheadSpring on the Oregon Coast

Seaside's pocket gardens burst with color and there is an increase of family activities when spring arrives on the beach. This is a favorite season for surfers and river kayakers. May brings the first of the semi-annual wine walk events. A wide variety of wildflowers bloom in spring, providing a colorful palette in the coastal meadows, forests, bluffs and beaches. April and May are busy seasons for birds and birdwatchers. Large numbers of shorebirds migrate north along the coast. Spring also brings the first of the daytime minus tides, making this an exceptional time for clamming and beach combing. Each spring, thousands of volunteers band together to beautify the coast during the SOLVE Spring Oregon Beach Cleanup. Explore a spring getaway in Seaside by checking out our 30 Things to Do page, flip through the Virtual Visitor Guide, or simply get motivated for a trip to the Oregon Coast by viewing some of our videos of what happens in our beautiful coastal town.

Seasideordonfrank0004More than Just a Day at the Beach
Seaside has been the Northwest’s most popular ocean resort for over a century and is located just 90 minutes from Portland, on the beautiful Oregon coast. It is a destination paradise for a wide variety of reasons: its spectacular ocean views, miles of public beach, unique natural setting, mild ocean climate, outdoor activities, year-round events, excellent shopping, and unforgettable dining.

Visitors delight in dozens of unique boutiques, specialty shops, art galleries and antique stores. Our 1.5-mile long ocean front Promenade is perfect for strollers, joggers and bike riders. The “Prom” also gives access to those with mobility issues, getting them closer to the beach. The wide and sandy beach is available for all kinds of activities, from low rider beach bikes, beach volleyball, wave watching, to sand castle building, kite flying or a hot dog roast. Those young at heart will enjoy such amusements as the carousel, arcades, miniature golf, bumper cars and boats, tilt-a-whirl, paddle boats and canoes.

Seaside has a plethora of culinary delights, satisfying even the most discriminating taste buds. We offer family fare, fine dining, ethnic cuisine, spirits, wine and brews, snacks and sweet treats. Local seafood and Pacific Northwest fare abound. Many of our lodging properties offer daily and weekly rates ranging from traditional hotels and motels, Bed and Breakfasts, Inns, timeshares, condos, vacation rentals, camp grounds and RV Resorts. Seaside is more than just a day at the beach!

Highlighting Seaside's History
Seaside has such a rich history, we have created a blog all about it. Seaside's History helps transport us back in time with fantastic stories and photographs of times gone by. Our Way Back Wednesdays offer a priceless glimpse into the past, as with this featured photo of Seaside House circa 1900. Read the latest post on our Seaside's History blog, or more history on Seaside can be read by following this link. (photo courtesy of Seaside Historical Society and Museum.)

Experience Seaside Through Audio Walking Tours
Seaside's rich history has given us some really great material for a series of podcasts, or what we like to call the Seaside Audio Walking Tour. Hit the road with your smart phone and turn up the volume while you enjoy a stroll in our walkable town. You'll hear about the Lewis & Clark salt-making camp, the historic Gilbert District and the Seaside Aquarium, which used to be the Seaside Baths Natatorium. Find the tours on iTunes by searching for "Seaside Walking Tours" or visit our YouTube channel for more information.
