Seaside’s First Saturday Art Walk

3-8_amy_osborneThe Seaside First Saturday Art Walk is all about the arts. Visitors wander, meet artists, sip wine or sample appetizers by favorite restaurants or personal chefs. They can view artist demonstrations, listen to an artist talk or enjoy live performances in music. The art walk is held on the first Saturday of every month, 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at businesses, shops, boutiques and dining establishments located between Holladay Drive and Broadway in the historic Gilbert District of downtown Seaside with courtesy parking available on the corner of Holladay and Oceanway.

Featured art this month:

  • SunRose Gallery, 606 Broadway

Fiber collage artist Robin Montero returns to SunRose for her 2nd show in which she continues to explore the limitless opportunities of needle felting including Bas-relief wool sculpture. Ocean life is Robin’s continued inspiration from her art to her Seaside beach cottage – all expressions of her love for the sea. In addition to fiber collage, Robin will also be introducing her unique form of art jewelry made of resin known as “doming”, where 2-part epoxy is mixed and then applied on the surface of a flat object, such as a photo.

  • The Gilbert District Gallery, 613 Broadway

The gallery, a co-op shared by artists from Washington and Oregon, is celebrating its 12th year and features original watercolors, bronzes, giclees, prints, Native American jewelry, oil paints, greeting cards, nature designs and gifts. Artists include Mike Sage’s incredible sculptured leaves, photographer Steve Bash and more.  An original watercolor, titled “Steen’s Mountain” by Dave Bartholet will be revealed.

  • SeaSoles Boutique, 608 Broadway

Features Angela Whitlock, an Oregon native artist with 16 years on the North Coast, who is professionally trained and employed as a goldsmith in Astoria. Whitlock enjoys playing with creative expression and works in many mediums including collage, painting, pen and ink, found object assemblage and crochet. Lately drawn to producing wearable art made of sterling silver, brass, copper, fresh water pearl and sea glass. Whitlock’s greatest inspiration comes from long exploratory beach walks with her Italian greyhound, Cricket. The curve of a piece of driftwood, a barnacle-encrusted seashell, a clutch of squid eggs or the always changing ocean is all inspiration for the artist.

  • Fairweather House and Gallery, 612 Broadway

Opening reception for “Power of Two”, an exhibition that includes regional artists who have managed to produce body of work that reads like an oasis of calm, a subtle backdrop during the time of high season in vacationland. Indeed, the show title sounds like a recipe for chaos given the summer busy activities and adventures yet when teamed with the artists selected and combined with the work they have created, the gallery truly adds a dimension of serenity that is sensed as much as seen.

Seaside nature photographer Neal Maine introduces his latest natural history journal of images and will speak at 6: pm.  A Painting Seaside LIVE episode, a painting demonstration, will be offered by Paul Brent. Adult beverages, light refreshments and door prizes offered by the featured artists will be provided.

  • Beach Books, 616 Broadway

Featuring The Green Cab artists. A collective created with the goal of encouraging and inspiring each other, sharing techniques and information about the business side of art, and sharing their work with the public. The “Cabbies” are a synergistic alliance of artists, working in a variety of mediums.

Participating artists for the July show, Ebb and Flow, are Jeffrey Hall, Annie Brown, Barbara Martin, Elina Zeberg, Jim Zaleski, Amy Brodie-Osborne, Patricia Krishnamurthy and Bruce Ulrich.

  • T.anjuli Gallery, 7 North Holladay Drive

Artist Billy Lutz is the gallery owner/resident artist/Seaside philosopher. His art work focuses on what lies beneath appearances having reemerged back into the field of opposites, the irrational landscape, now exposed, and is stitched into the physical realm for all to see.  From now on, one cannot escape or deny that there is more going on in present tense than just the world spinning and us moving about on its surface.
