Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the roadway that bridged the Americas. The Astoria-Megler Bridge celebrates 50 years in 2016, and it’s going to be a huge birthday bash. There will be a reenactment of the opening of the bridge, featuring state and local dignitaries driving across the span from Astoria to Washington and back again. The festivities will commence at the Maritime Memorial Park in Uniontown. From there, the celebration continues with the Astoria Regatta Grand Land Parade in Downtown Astoria. The Astoria–Megler Bridge is a steel cantilever through-truss bridge that spans the Columbia River between Astoria, Oregon and Point Ellice near Megler, Washington. Located 14 miles (23 km) from the mouth of the river, the bridge is 4.1 miles (6.6 km) long and was the last completed segment of U.S. Hwy 101 between Olympia, Washington, and Los Angeles, California. It is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America.
