Seaside’s First Saturday Art Walk

SaturdayArtWalk Billy LutzThe Seaside First Saturday Art Walk is all about the arts. Visitors wander, meet artists, sip wine or sample appetizers by favorite restaurants or personal chefs. They can view artist demonstrations, listen to an artist talk or enjoy live performances in music. The art walk is held on the first Saturday of every month, 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at businesses, shops, boutiques and dining establishments located between Holladay Drive and Broadway in the historic Gilbert District of downtown Seaside with courtesy parking available on the corner of Holladay and Oceanway.

Featured this month at the Art Walk:

SunRose Gallery, 606 Broadway

Featured artist Zemula Fleming celebrates her fascination with Icons and their power to evoke adoration and reverence. Inspired by ancient churches in travels to Italy, Spain and Peru and the amazing patterns, textures and styles of period clothing and the people who wore them, Fleming creates glass bead and acrylic paint mosaics on wood panels. Also attending are Robin Montero – fiber collage and resin jewelry,  Juanita May Smith – original pinch pots and Patty Thurlby – up cycled mixed media.

Fairweather House and Gallery, 612 Broadway

Opening reception for Moments Like This, an exhibition of selected art created by artists mesmerized by the sparkling ocean and fiery sunsets. Artists appearing include Bev Drew Kindley and Paul Brent, among others.

Nature photographer Neal Maine introduces his latest images and will speak at 6:00pm. Adult beverages, light refreshments, live music by Shirley 88, artist lectures  and door prizes will be provided.

The Gilbert District Gallery, 613 Broadway

Featuring Mike Sage, an artist renowned for his unorthodox medium: leaves. A self-described nature lover, he constructs shadow boxes, jewelry, and even dresses from the preserved skeletal remnants of leaves.  Credited with developing a unique tactic to expose the intricate vascular structure of the leaf, Sage illuminates the elegant nature of that which is hidden.

SeaSoles Boutique, 608 Broadway

Oregon native Jorjett Strumme, has been an adventure echoing those on the big screen of old Hollywood. Jorjett’s lifelong dream of designing and creating glamorous fashion for the legends of Hollywood was a dream destined to come true. The glamorous, “Golden Age” of Hollywood, is still a source of inspiration for the artist and designer.

Beach Books in the Loft Gallery at 616 Broadway

Discover the many riches of red at Red Hot! – featuring Barbara Martin’s Red Series of paintings exploring this dynamic hue. Fiery reds: passion, warning, STOP.  Lively reds of roses, sunsets and autumn foliage. The earthiness of rust and clay, and the juicy red of luscious ripe berries. Which red speaks to you?

T.anjuli Gallery, 7 North Holladay Drive

“Billy Lutz, owner of the gallery, is a magnificent artist. His works transcend pure aesthetics and delve into the abstract realm of the metaphysical to evoke an intense spiritual and intellectual response. In the true spirit of his paintings, Lutz eclipses his physical limitations through his fathomless ardor for philosophy. Afflicted with retinitis pigmentosa, a hereditary degenerative eye disease, Lutz continues expressing his brilliant theories through poignantly conceptual art.”–Amy Kiefer, freelance Gilbert District reporter.

Seaside Coffee House, 3 N. Holladay Drive

Features Marcus Lundell, an artist who utilizes a traditional reverse glass painting technique in on distressed windows, as well as new and vintage picture frames to create his unique images. His window views include classic landscapes and comedic characters – sometimes juxtaposed in the same scene. His witty perspective brings a modern, urbane touch to his folk art medium.
