Seaside is proud to be among a small number of coastal towns in Oregon to offer free beach wheelchairs to visitors and the public for use in the area. The program allows complimentary reservations of a beach wheelchair through the Sunset Empire Parks & Recreation District (SEPRD).
For those with physical disabilities, the Prom – one of Seaside’s defining features since the 1920s – has served as a relatively accessible point for spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, sunsets over the water, and Tillamook Head. However, venturing into the sand was still off limits for many.
Thanks to the combined vision and partnership of painter Randy Anderson, Wheel Fun Rentals owners Denise and Patrick Duhachek, and the SEPRD, Seaside will make available three beach-accessible wheelchairs with large, wide tires that can navigate the sandy beaches that line the shores here in Seaside.
Reservations are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis for up to four hours at a time. Call the Bob Chisholm Community Center at 503-738-7393 for more information or to reserve a beach wheelchair.
Once-per-month, receive an email with upcoming events, new spots to try, trip ideas, and updates from the Oregon Coast.
