One of the pleasures of winter on the Oregon Coast is bundling up and communing with the stormy sea. The experience is even sweeter when there’s the promise of a tasty meal and a fire to warm you after. Fortunately, Seaside offers homey cafes, cozy patios and fine-dining spots where you can savor a delicious meal and gather round a crackling fire. Here are a number of spots where you’ll find both.
In the heart of downtown Seaside on Broadway Street, you’ll find Finn’s Fish House, a local favorite for more than 25 years. Warm up next to one of the sleek fire-pit tables on the patio and indulge in a little streetside people watching, or head indoors to the cozy speakeasy-style lounge, where there’s an indoor fire pit and a full bar. No matter where you land, you can enjoy dishes like seafood-filled cioppino and a gooey Dungeness crab melt. The lounge even has a late-night breakfast menu.Â
Sink into one of the comfy leather couches near the corner fireplace at Nonni’s Italian Bistro, sip a spritz and nibble from an antipasto plate — you’ll soon be dreaming of Italy. For specialties from the old country and Italian-American favorites — like spicy Italian sausage and white bean soup, homemade lasagna, and spaghetti topped with a hefty fontina-studded meatball — it doesn’t get much cozier than this.
Watch the big game and warm up after a hike at this long-standing local watering hole just north of the intersection of Highways 101 and 26. Relief Pitcher is known for its substantial burgers, albacore tuna Reubens and hand-cut fries. This unpretentious spot is full of character and has a toasty woodstove that’s fired up most winter days. Live music is often on the menu and dogs are welcome to play in the tavern’s big backyard.Â
A block off Broadway in the heart of downtown Seaside, Iggy’s has a fire pit, a full bar and a cozy upstairs deck. Sip a handcrafted cocktail or mocktail and enjoy the fresh sea air, with a happy-hour menu that includes specials on chowder, burgers, oysters and calamari. Owned by the same family that operates the popular Dooger’s Seafood & Grill, Iggy’s offers the full restaurant menu. Don’t sleep on the homemade deep-dish apple crisp or marionberry cobbler.Â
The outdoor patio with toasty fire pit at Seaside Brewing Co. is the perfect spot to sip a locally brewed Sneaker Wave IPA or the unique spin on a potent Belgian Tripel. Located in the historic city-jail building, this small-but-mighty brewer is passionate about both craft beer and barbecue, reflected in a tempting menu with a range of wood-smoked foods. Prepared in the restaurant’s two 1,000-gallon pits, there’s everything from smoked fish and oysters to brisket, ribs and mushrooms. Gluten-free offerings include beer and fish and chips.
A charming southside neighborhood restaurant where you can warm up by the stone fireplace, Angelina’s Pizzeria & Cafe encourages visitors to indulge in some serious comfort food. In addition to hand-tossed pizzas, salads and calzones, you’ll find sub sandwiches like chicken parm and meatball. There’s an outdoor fire pit too — a good spot to hang if you’re getting takeout. For those with dietary restrictions, dairy-free cheese and gluten-free crusts are available.Â
This homey, family-owned cafe just a block off the Avenue U beach-access point is a great stop for breakfast or lunch. The cheerful dining room has a fireplace, and Osprey Cafe’s unique menu includes favorites with a twist — think smoked-steelhead hash and eggs Benedict made with arepas (savory cornmeal pancakes). Equally renowned for its house-made pastries as for its international dishes like Balinese barbecue pork with peanut sauce, Osprey Cafe is a favorite of locals and visitors alike.
