After the Storm

There is nothing quite so fundamentally relatable as the experience of the peaceful calm following a storm on the Oregon coast. This photo of the turnaround is dated from the early 1900s (most likely somewhere in the 1920s) and pictures Seaside visitors or residents emerging after a storm to witness the shifting cloud-play at work.
Notice the top of the second streetlamp from the left. There seems to be a suspicious absence of a bulb and fixture. Perhaps the storm was a doozy, with forceful high winds?
Pictures of the past can remind us of startling differences, but also awaken intimate similarities. You know that special purity on the breeze that whips in off the ocean after a storm? That freshness born of wind, damp earth, and new struggling sunbeams? Well, you can bet these folks felt it too, way back when.
