As history would have it, the tandem bicycle first came on the scene in the late 19th Century when patents for multiple-rider bicycles began to surface. About that time, composer Harry Dacre coined the phrase “bicycle built for two” in his 1892 song “Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two)” and a romantic bicycling fad went mainstream.

Bicycling on a beach cruiser has long been a tradition here in Seaside, where for decades, beach-goers have enjoyed renting bikes of all sorts while they vacationed. The Prom Bike & Hobby Shop in Seaside, the 5th oldest shop in all of Oregon, has been renting bicycles to fun-loving, active vacationers for decades. In their collection now there are a variety of tandem bikes, including bicycles built for two made for cruising both on the street and on the beach itself. Bikes can be rented for an hour, for the day, or for a whole week.
