Lunch in the Loft: Debra Gwartney
April 18 @ 12:00 pm$25
Lunch in the Loft: Debra Gwartneyon, will be discussing her beautiful new memoir I Am a Stranger Here Myself. Her memoir tells of her childhood as a lonely girl growing up in rural Idaho. But in an interesting and non-traditional twist, she interweaves the story of Narcissa Whitman, the first Caucasian woman to cross the Rocky Mountains and one of fourteen people killed at the Whitman Mission in 1847 by a band of Cayuse. Gwartney grows up with a deep connection to the landscape of her home but not it’s culture. She never cared much for guns, horses or whiskey and her memoir is exploration of what it means to be a woman of the West. Recipient of the River Teeth Literary Nonfiction Prize, Gwartney lives in Western Oregon with her husband Barry Lopez who also just released a new work, Horizon. A catered lunch and and a copy of the book are included in the $25 cost.
Please RSVP to 503-738-3500.
