Stars Love Tranquility in Seaside OR

Lindsay-Lohan-The Hollywood Stars visit us here in the Coast-but are usually quiet about it. And we tend to help them stay quiet, even when we see them. We don’t run and call the newspaper (trying to track down a freelancer for the newspaper would often take longer than ten minutes). And we don’t tend to whip out our cameras (most locals don’t even carry cameras-unless you count our cell phones).

We don’t surround them for autographs to sell on EBay. We let them eat their meals in relative peace when they are visiting local restaurants and often just blink a couple of extra times when they are passing by in the lobbies of our hotels.

My chance meeting with Lindsey Lohan happened a few years back (at the Seaside Health Food Store), before she was in trouble with the law and when many of us still saw her as a sweet starlet with ties to the second “Parent Trap”. In fact, when I saw her, she had little (if no) makeup on and the freckles across her face were extremely visible. She is shorter than I expected (shorter than I).

Seeing a “Star” was the last thing on my mind and before I fully realized who it was, she was out the door. But our exchange was friendly, and she fully recommended (and went on about) a box of Spring Rolls she had pulled from the freezer of the store. I was glad for the recommendation, chatted back with her and as she swung out the door and into a black car with dark tinted windows and CA licenses plates (the someone who was driving had stayed in the car), I suddenly realized who it was. Duh!

I saw another Star (who shall go nameless but is sometimes a gentleman, according to the Press) in Safeway. A few people glanced-then glanced again-but I saw no one approach him. They just smiled at him as they walked by (and of course, quickly turned to whisper to the person walking next to them).

I met Austin O’Brien many years ago. He was a kid, and his family vacationed here every year. We had a long conversation about how he had just filmed a movie (“Lawnmower Man”) with Pierce Brosnan. Austin was unknown to me at the time (but from Eugene) and I think I actually rolled my eyes at him when he first started talking about the movie. But we went onto have a nice conversation about his experiences and about his mom (who acts in commercials) and his acting experience. I did finally believe him, because his stories were so detailed. I should have probably asked for his autograph but truly at the time, he seemed to be just a down-to-earth kid. Later, Austin became best-known for his role as Danny in the “Last Action Hero”.

My daughter saw Jessica Simpson in Cannon Beach. And other sightings that I know of include Sean Penn, Britney Spears, Arnold Schwarzenegger and of course Brendon Fraser and others when they were filming last year in Manzanita.

Word on the street is, the Stars love the tranquility, as we do, of the Oregon Coast. Have you seen any Stars in Seaside? If so, let us know below.

Well, it was a bit of a shock to my whole family (including ME) when they came to Daughter Jenni's high school graduation to find out that Arnold S. was the special speaker. We must have screamed for a good 10 minutes! It was wonderful. I think my family was quite impressed, so I sort of acted like..."Oh this sort of thing happens down here all the time!" ha I was working at Cara's Card Shop at the Carousel Mall when a VERY tall person walked by..UNUSUALLY tall...It turned out to be Scotty Pippen of the POOOORRRTTTLLLAND TRRRAAAILBLAZERS!!! He looked like he was having fun too. That's all I can think of in Seaside...for now. ;)
